The wait for a “Real” off road KTM is finally ending. KTM India has the officially confirmed that the 390 Adventure R the most hardcore, trail ready version of the 390 series—is hitting Indian shores.
While the standard 390 Adventure was often criticized for being too “touring focused” the ‘R’ variant is a pure bred off road machine designed to conquer a Himalayas.

1. What Makes the ‘R’ Variant Different?
This isn’t just a sticker job. KTM has swapped out the road biased parts for serious dirt hardware:
- Long-Travel Suspension: It features massive 230mm travel at both ends—that’s 30mm more than the standard bike.
- Pro Wheels: Say goodbye to the 19-inch front; the ‘R’ gets a proper 21-inch front and 18-inch rear spoke wheel setup.
- Extreme Clearance: Ground clearance has jumped to staggering 272mm, making it one of the tallest bikes in its class.
2. Performance & Tech
It retains the 399cc LC4c engine but with a twist:
- Output: 46 PS and 39 Nm of torque.
- Electronics: It gets a “Rally Mode” that allows you to turn off rear ABS and adjust traction control on the fly.
- Weight: Despite the heavy duty suspension an its weighs only 176 kg, making it significantly lighter than the Himalayan 450.
